What this is
On 31 October 2026 Andrej Karpathy published HackerTube, a YouTube front end limited to the videos Hacker News has recommended to itself for twenty years, and released the data behind it under an open license. That data is the best filtered list of long-form video on the internet, and the original site, being a single-page app, keeps it invisible to search engines and to anyone who arrives by a link to a specific video. This edition fixes that: a page for each of the 6,454 videos with the Hacker News comments on it, a page for each topic, area, channel and format, ranked lists, and a sitemap. What is HackerTube? has the full story.
What it is not
Not the official site, not affiliated with Karpathy, Anthropic, YouTube or Hacker News, and not a replacement for hackertube.org, whose playlists and semantic search are not reproduced here. If this edition is useful, it is because the original data is excellent; credits and license.
Principles
- Show the evidence. Every video page shows the comments, who wrote them, when, and under which story, with links back. The year strip on every card is the same evidence at a glance.
- No accounts, no tracking tied to you. Your likes, watch-later and history stay in your browser. Playback uses YouTube's privacy-enhanced embed and only loads when you press play.
- No engagement ranking. The order is the HackerTube score, and the formula is public.
- Keep it current, do not rewrite history. New recommendations are added after the export date; nothing already in the list is removed except on request.
