In his video he made for Magnasanti [0] (which I really recommend watching by the way), Oscala did mention that an earlier version of the city was in fact inspired by the Kowloon Walled City. [0] [this video]
Creator discusses Magnasanti, inspired by Kowloon Walled City
This appears to be a low-quality partial copy of a more detailed blog post from 2010, now gone but still living on via archive.is: [link] Don't miss the video: [this video] Discussed previously on HN: [link] (620 comments)
Somewhat relevant, a guy designed the ultimate city, Magnasanti, in Simcity 4. Here's his video [1] and an interview [2]. Choice quote from the interview: Vice: I think most people’s natural inclination after watching your video would be awe, followed by fear. Vincent: I am in agreement. That was part of the intent of the video, for those that know, play, and love the game. Introversion, an indie game company in the UK who created hacker favorites like Uplink has unfortunately shelved their game project played in a fully procedurally generated city, from the major neighbourhoods down to the individual floors of the buildings. You could get a demo of the city generator from the recent Humble Bundle. There are still some fascinating videos to find on their blog [3] or on youtube [4] [1] [this video] [2] [link] [3] [link] [4] [link] [edit]: better link for the Subversion video
I love SimCity 2000. I remember back then the most legendary build: MAGNASANTI (6 million residents, 2.523.010 commerce and 644.173 industry. 9172 million total population) [this video]
What is this article about? If it is getting rid of noisy gas leafblowers im sure we are all on board. If it is about getting rid of beautiful suburbia and replacing it with Magnasanti then I think only a tiny minority want that. MAGNASANTI [this video]
