Used as an example of computer-generated music in threads on AI creativity and music.
A short clip of a track from Emily Howell, a computer program by David Cope that composes classical-style music, performed by human players. It is a sample of algorithmic composition.
The tracks from the latest album are a LOT better. They are obviously played by a human. Here's an example (search YouTube for 'Emily Howell music') [this video] I'm really surprised the author of the article didn't try to get a snippet to play (edit: they do on the page 2 of the article). The music still doesn't quite do it for me but if you consider the potential of future versions it is pretty amazing.
There's a few such projects in existence. Perhaps not RNN-Mozart inspired, but I'm sure that exists too. Emily Howell [this video] Here's a Bach-inspired computer-generated song: [link]
Who knows what you mean by purely autonomously since even people can't help but learn from their experiences. Nevertheless, here's a novel composition made by an NLP algorithm trained on classical music: [this video]
