Years with an HN recommendation, 2007–2026
HN recommends it as a good, condensed way to experience Neuromancer when short on time.
The BBC radio play adaptation of William Gibson's cyberpunk novel Neuromancer, running about two hours. It features professional voice acting, sound effects and music.
“The BBC did a great adaptation of the book to a radio play, complete with professional voice acting, sound effects, even music” (HN, 2018)
There is a BBC Audio drama of Neuromancer that is 1:56 long. It is excellent. [this video] I haven't listened to the audio book of Neuromancer but I re-read it a few weeks back. The audio play I still go back to once in a while as well.
The BBC did a great adaptation of the book to a radio play, complete with professional voice acting, sound effects, even music: [1] Unfortunately, it's only an abridged version. On the positive side, it's a quick listen, and well worth it if you're a fan (or just want to get a taste). [1] - [this video]
Abridged BBC radio play with voice acting, sound effects, music
There is a very good radio play adaption of Neuromancer from the BBC : [this video] The Neuromancer film was last meant to be directed by Tim Miller who directed Deadpool and was to be released in 2021. So somehow the mess with the film rights may be resolved somehow. The Neuromancer trilogy would make a great TV series. A few episodes for each book.
Very good BBC radio play adaptation of Neuromancer
The BBC did a pretty good audio adaptation of Neuromancer. You can listen to it here: [this video] Neuromancer would be hard to do well as a film. But as fairly short TV series it would be excellent. There is huge potential as well because you could do, say Neuromancer in 4 hours and then do the rest of the trilogy. The best screen adaptation of a book I know of, Brideshead Revisited from 1981, took the book almost word for word and made a fairly long TV series. Neuromancer and the rest of the trilogy could be done the same way.
Although I highly recommend reading the full novel, if you don't have the time, this BBC audio rendition is only about 2 hours long and is pretty good. Note that it's a highly condensed version of the story and skips many of the best parts. [this video]
Two-hour condensed BBC rendition for those short on time
