Despite all the drama that happens every second month, I'm still "Rust curious". Working with Rust is fun, and I hope it will be my main language in my next job. You are not the first that noticed the overly political nature of the Rust "community", not a coincidence that we see a blue haired individual in this skit [this video] I didn't downvote you, but you might be downvoted not because you are wrong, but because it derails the conversation. Turning every Rust thread into a "The Foundation is too woke" can be annoying.
> There was an article on HN a few days ago about this. "Rust has 5 games and 50 game engines". That's not an article. That's a humourous video. Source: [this video]
I also had the same bad experience with Rust outside of Gamedev. Probably a lot of other people too, but people don't talk about it much, because the Rust community is the most religious programming language community I've ever seen in my life. Before Rust, the Scala community was also pretty bizarre (Java too for a while), but nothing was on Rust's level. The worst part about Rust isn't technical, it's the crazy community. You can see in the article that the author tries to explain everything at every point, trying to escape the problem "If you don't understand something in Rust, you're holding Rust wrong." Of course, there are many people in the Rust community who are not religious and try to improve the language, but my general feeling after reading a lot about Rust is to stay very far from the church of Rust. The best response to this type of community is humor, like this video about a Rust Senior developer [this video]
"Is rust good for game development? Rust is good for everything. There are currently... 5 games written in rust. And 50 game engines."[0] [0] [this video]
The title reminds of this: [this video] "In Rust you need to worry about borrowing. In C++ you don't have to worry about borrowing; in C++ you have to worry about ownership, which is an old concept..." :-P
