A few days ago someone posted this in a comment.. I can't find the comment, and the whole thing is worth watching, but since apparently a lot of people share this sentiment, maybe they too can have some of their faith restored a bit by this rant; and it's why the idea of "integrity first" was floating in my head: [this video]
A rant that restores faith in integrity-first values.
Summed up here in the integrity rant by Bryan Cantrill - many companies don't have it (or care): [link] ( [this video] ) >In the short run, they win. In the current world of high (fake?) valuations, make money fast and now - this strategy wins so it is considered "OK", overlooked or the norm. The fact that it is revealed to be happening in SV is only IMO b/c the industry is so hot now. All eyes on on it. Its also the only real investment/booming industry left in America. I'm sure we saw a lot of this in the past too (80s wall street etc) :(
You might enjoy this, I know I agree with it: [this video] (turn the sound down some before clicking the link though, it features screaming about important things for the right reasons)
Passionate rant about important things for the right reasons.
> That's how a company works: try to do everything they legally can to make as much money as they can. No, companies don’t need to be like that. This is a meme that needs to die. Companies can have a set of values (principles) and act according to those principles. Any investors can be told ahead of time the principles by which the company operates, and if they don’t want to buy stock on that basis, they’re welcome to stay out. Bryan Cantrill has had some excellent rants about this over the years. Eg: [this video] . His take is that money for a company is like fuel in a car. You don’t go for a road trip (start a company) because you want to get more fuel. You go because there’s some place you want to get to. And fuel (money) is something you need along the way to make your journey possible. Don’t let sociopathic assholes off the hook. They aren’t forced to be like that. They’re choosing to abandon their ethics and common decency. Everyone would be better off if this sort of behaviour wasn’t tolerated.
Cantrill argues companies can act on principles; money is fuel, not destination.
Defense contractors and longevity are also disturbing. Rich pervert vibes. The latter always reminds me of Jeffrey Epstein wanting to cryo freeze his head and penis (LOL) and Larry Ellison's foundation dedicated to longevity — "namely, his": [this video]
