HN cites it as a famous piece of anti-Apple marketing, with some praising the ad and others mocking the spin.

A one-minute Fortnite parody of Apple's 1984 ad, released when Epic Games challenged the App Store and Apple removed Fortnite from iOS. It frames Apple as the monopolist.

“Apple has now turned into what they despised.” (HN, 2024)

Take the Apple Ad in Contrast to the Microsoft Ad that aired during Super Bowl. The whole time I thought it was an Apple Ad and then it was Microsoft Copilot ad. The made me dream, made me feel I could do more. The ad was about the viewer. [link] See the Apple Siri Ad - it’s about how the device enhances the viewer to do more. [link] Apple has now turned into what they despised. I absolutely loved the Epic ad that was a take of the original Apple ad which was based on 1984. Apple - [link] Epic - [this video] It’s fair to say if Steve Jobs was still calling shots, this Ad would have never aired. The Ad shows everything wrong with Apple. They’ve become a soulless corporation.

well, thanks to the EU, it's going to apply to Apple real soon too. This is one of the things app store review and fully enforcable permissioning prevents (prevented). [link] So much for the "app store is like 1984" marketing spin that Epic put out lol. Now you have the freedom to have spyware installed on your phone... which is what I and many others have been saying all along. Not just abusive spouses but Facebook and others will be all over this. [this video] As I said previously... Facebook and others already have this sort of spyware ready to go, because they were already using their developer credentials to get users to sideload it for data mining . Now it won't be optional/"we'll give you a gift card", it'll just be mandatory if you want to use Facebook on a ios device. Sorry this browser is not supported, please install the native app. [link]
