Linked repeatedly as clear evidence of the iOS keyboard bug when people complain about typos.
A short video arguing that the iPhone keyboard has gotten worse, showing slow-motion footage of taps registering the wrong letters. It claims the problem is iOS itself rather than user error.
“The YT video they linked is excessively clear about what the issue is.” (HN, 2026)

The number one priority must surely be fixing the keyboard, besides the horrible UX? Millions are having problems for years so it's not just me, honestly thought i was "getting old" but no incredible amount of threads and now this on YT with 1 mil views: [this video] Wild typing on a 3210 was less stressful for me.
Video with 1 million views showing the iOS keyboard problem.
35m ago edit: Apple uses many predictive systems for typing. My sentiment in pointing out just slide to type might be misguided as it does not exist in a vacuum. I'd love to see these tests redone with slide to type disabled. I'm leaving the original comment below for reference. Slide to type. This "issue" is at most 6 years old for iOS users. Turn off slide to type if you do not use it. Slide to type does key resizing logic. This is the direct cause of this issue. Please upvote this comment for visibility. Please reply if you think I'm wrong. I see this get posted frequently enough I'm actually losing it. Please refer to [this video] (timestamp 1:12) to see that slide to type is enabled.
Fwiw it becomes really really obvious when companies have someone at the top pushing for initiatives like this and when they don't. A great example is how Apple used to be great at this. These days.the.keyboard.is.practically.unusable. As in it still doesn't type out the letter you tapped and you can see this via slow motion video recording [this video] It's not at all wrong to call out subordinates in the company for quality feel. It may seem like it leads to misprioritization (everyone in the company scrambles to fix the issue you saw) but not doing this at all is far far worse. Look at this issue BillG raised and the fact that no one cared until it was raised. Big companies are very siloed by nature. The only thing that breaks these silos is the leadership doing things like this.
Slow-motion recording shows keyboard not typing the tapped letter.
I submitted this YouTube video (not mine) a while ago here that demonstrates typing issues that I also encountered on several iPhones: [It's Not Just You – The iOS Keyboard Is Broken]( [this video] )
Wow that video [0] is incredible, in a bad way. How can the OS correctly register the letter tapped but then input a different letter? That is like the most fundamental feature of a keyboard. It's not even autocomplete because the letters "Thj" as shown in the video don't even match any words that start with T. Glad I'm sticking to Android then, whose typing, you know, actually works, not even to mention how good (at least SwiftKey's) autocomplete and swipe typing is. [0] [this video]
Shows keyboard registering one letter and inputting another.
+1. From the original post, I found this video to be particularly damning: [this video] Does anyone have an explanation for how something like this passes QC at a company with the resources of Apple? Is this video misrepresenting something?
All of Apple's software is rotting, from OSX to iOS to the developer tools. Massive bugs like the keyboard no longer working properly [1] are left unresolved for years. Whichever executive or engineering leader used to keep the quality bar high must have left or stopped paying attention. There also seems to be little culture of quality and ownership at the IC level. It’s not a silly comment, both macOS and iOS have been decaying into dog shit over the years from obvious bugs that anyone who uses the apps and features being sold would run into very quickly. Tim and other executives might be using their devices as email machines, but it’s not obvious they’re using everything they’re quite literally selling us. A few random examples: 1: The iOS keyboard is literally broken [this video] 2: The Music app is barely functional, and will regularly fail to play music. Here it is bugging out, and stacking multiple album covers [link] 3: Offloading an app does not actually save any space [link] There’s so many more, and none of these examples are edge cases.
