Years with an HN recommendation, 2007–2026
HN cites it whenever LED holiday lights look wrong or give people headaches, as an explanation of why they seem too blue.
Technology Connections complains about the harsh, overly blue color of modern LED Christmas lights and tries more fixes for them. It follows earlier videos by the same creator on holiday lighting.
“Technology Connections made a video about this recently.” (HN, 2023)
I've read enough... A set of lights with BLE, I'm out. Thanks to the author for referencing them. It did remind me of the analog Technology Connections video : [this video]
Reminded of Technology Connections video on lights
It’s not just the flickering but also the colour. I really hate the colours of RGB LED Christmas light. I feel no warm Christmas feelings when I see them. Technology Connections made a video about this recently. He described it as it looking “like a gaming PC exploded on your front lawn”. [this video]
The blue is nicer if you do that. Technology Connections has made 3 videos over the last 5 years mostly centering around how he hates the blue led lights used in holiday lights. I think I've only seen the 2 yr old one, but now that I have I can't unsee it. The blue is just too blue. If you see a set that is all blue instead of multi-color it's unbearable. It's just too blue. White light in blue plastic is where it's at. [link] [link] [this video]
Related to the final photo: you might feel like those Christmas lights feel too blue compared to your nostalgic version of Christmas. This is because LEDs can easily achieve a brighter blue than old incandescent Christmas lights which used color filters on a white light. Technology Connections vid: [this video]
