Commenters hold it up as proof that 2600 programming is alive in the demoscene and as one of the most impressive demos ever made on the hardware.
Bang! is an Atari 2600 demo by XAYAX that won first place at the Revision 2014 oldschool demo competition. It fits into a 32k ROM using F8SC bankswitching.
“2600 programming is alive in the demo scene. This was just created in 2014 and is completely insane” (HN, 2014)
On that note, this is one of the most impressive demos I've ever seen: [this video] (When you're familiar with what a baseline atari 2600 game looks like, this is just beyond the pale.)
One of the most impressive demos, beyond baseline 2600 games
After seeing demos like Bang!/XayaX [1] and Chiphead/Altair [2], it is pretty clear that the hardware that I work on is ridiculously overpowered. [1] [this video] [2] [link]
