1) Fair point. The problem-solving technique is the most important part, but from this physicist's perspective, there is work that is objectively wrong, and there is basically always a limited set of solution approaches and results that I'd consider fully correct. Making the leap from "right answers" to "right thinking for decision making" is the key indicator of the expertise we want to train, and it doesn't happen just by making feedback less clear ;) 2) True! You really have to be careful even within terminologies. There are lots of different implementations of mastery-based grading, for example, and they're subtly different. And a final note: we're of dangerously similar (but not quite the same) perspectives! [this video]
I'm not pitching in my $0.02 here (although I have plenty to say, as I seem to be an irredeemable heretic). Emo Phillips was never my favorite comic, but he did have one bit that dovetails quite nicely, here: [this video]
> I'm not sure what they're going to do when there aren't any groups left to "other." Sadly, this will never happen. We've been at this for tens of thousands of years, and we always find "others." [this video]
Some Eastern Orthodox use (for all dialogue, they do celebrate mass) a language that's now only referred to as Church Slavonic. [1] Though going down this tangent I can't help but think of that Emo Phillips skit on religion: [this video] [1] - [link]
