Recommended as a one-hour substitute for the book's opening chapters for those short on time.
Daniel Kahneman's Talks at Google lecture on his book Thinking, Fast and Slow, covering System 1 and System 2 thinking and the psychology of judgment and decision making.
“If you're short on time, watch Kahneman's talk at Google, which basically summarizes the first chapter or so.” (HN, 2019)
Kahneman's talk at Google summarized the first 2 chapters pretty well: [this video] I strongly recommend it for anyone who doesn't have time to read the book. As for the book itself, I agree with some others' postings here -- it's absolutely fantastic. It changed the way I think about human cognition and education... not to mention machine learning, politics, and marketing.
Summarizes the first chapters of Thinking, Fast and Slow.
It's been on my list after watching this great lecture: [this video] I plan to follow it with Moonwalking with Einstein: The Art and Science of Remembering Everything .
I believe the bit about priming was refuted in some repro attempts. If you're short on time, watch Kahneman's talk at Google, which basically summarizes the first chapter or so. [this video]
Summarizes the book's first chapter for those short on time.
Warning from Daniel Kahneman on "System 1" and "System 2". [1] > I'm going to use "System 1" and "System 2", absolutely as homunculi. [...] They don't exist. [...] Don't look for them in the brain, because they are not two systems in the brain, of which one does one, and the other does the other. So why am I using this terrible language? I'm using it because I think it's helpful. It fits the way our minds work, and to explain the background of that decision--of why I use "System 1" and "System 2"--I refer you to a very good book. [...] It's by Joshua Foer and it's called "Moonwalking with Einstein". [2] [1] [this video] [2] [link] The article does put these terms in quotes.
