Cited as the source of Levandowski's remark agreeing with Elon Musk that lidar is a crutch.
A TechCrunch interview with Anthony Levandowski about his new startup Pronto.ai and autonomous vehicles, after the Uber and Waymo lawsuit. He discusses lessons learned and the role of lidar.
“Anthony Levandowski of Waymo LIDAR fame has said he now agrees with Elon Musk” (HN, 2019)
You seem very angry for some reason that I do not understand. Your emotional response is not backed up by facts. Hotz can certainly be considered an expert as founder and president of commai.ai. Whether he is a loudmouth or not is less relevant. The remark by Levandowski can be found here: [this video] Whether these guys are ethical etc. is not of interest for this question. > Elon really is alone in claiming that lidar isn’t needed for self-driving. No, precisely not.
Just FYI, many other high-level experts on this space like Anthony Levandowski who actually worked with Sebastian Thrun after meeting him at the 2005 DARPA Grand Challenge. Said the same thing. There's a reason why I asked if you could share your work. Because those two individuals are clearly at the top of their field. If your thesis is correct, then it's easily worth 100+M if not 1B+ USD in value. It's easy to be hyper critical, compared to actually being in the trenches trying to solve these hard problems.
