HN commenters point to it as an accessible way to get a grip on AdS/CFT and the holographic principle whenever black holes or information physics come up.
A PBS Space Time episode explaining the holographic principle: the idea that our 3+1 dimensional universe may be described by information on a lower-dimensional boundary. It walks through black hole entropy and the AdS/CFT correspondence.
“Here's a video that made me feel like I almost half-way understood one of the main underlying principles (AdS/CFT correspondence)” (HN, 2019)
Here's a video that made me feel like I almost half-way understood one of the main underlying principles (AdS/CFT correspondence) [this video] re: "Following the discovery of this duality by Juan Maldacena" Semi-unrelated: If you like articles like this, I bet you'll love that whole channel.
Makes AdS/CFT correspondence almost understandable.
PBS Space Time have done a number of episodes on the holographic principle[1] I strongly recommend anyone interested in physics check out the channel [1] [this video]
PBS Space Time's episodes on the holographic principle.
There's a lot here but this specifically talks about AdS/CFT which seems to be a pretty core concept [this video] Just linked this on a similar information theory thread [1] (glad it's so popular on HN right now!) 1: [link]
I'm not sure why you're being downvoted. It's not an unreasonable question/thought. The heisenberg uncertainty principle says we cannot know both position and momentum perfectly at the same time where I believe your comment is originating from? In theory, if we perfectly know the quantum information then a system's state is perfectly reproducible (probably not us... ultra aliens?) since no quantum information is ever lost (probably...). To my best understanding, this is the idea of the holographic principle[0]. [0] [this video]
I think that's the million dollar question. :) This episode touches on that a bit (but not really), and we're getting into holographic universe theory - [this video]
